Signs Your BFT Access Control Installation Is Failing

• The keypad accepts the code but the gate doesn’t move. This often points to a failing relay on the access control board or a dead output transistor. The keypad itself may be fine, but the signal never reaches the operator. We test this in under ten minutes with a meter.
• Some remotes work, others don’t. BFT remotes with rolling codes can lose sync with the receiver, especially after a power surge. We see this often in Little Elm after summer lightning moves through Denton County.

There are a few things you can safely check yourself. Look for an obviously damaged keypad face, tripped breaker, or a photo-eye lens covered in dirt or spider webs. No tools required, no risk. But access control systems carry low-voltage wiring into high-voltage control boards, and a wrong color-matched wire can fry the entire board. BFT boards are not forgiving of reverse polarity. If you’re comfortable with a meter and can identify the relay terminals, you might handle a simple keypad face swap. If the board itself is involved, or the gate doesn’t respond after a power reset, that’s the line where we recommend stopping. Electrical work plus a moving gate is not the place to learn by trial and error.
