Linear Welding & Fabrication: The Little Elm Owner’s Guide

If your Linear gate has a cracked weld, a bent frame member, or a hinge that’s torn loose from the post, we can usually repair or refabricate it same-week, often same-day. Most Linear welding and fabrication work in Little Elm runs $180 to $480 installed, depending on whether we’re re-welding in place, building a reinforcement plate, or fabricating a replacement bracket from scratch. The typical discovery goes like this: the gate starts dragging on one corner, or it shudders when the opener cycles, and then you notice the weld bead has separated or the steel has fatigued clean through. Linear builds solid operators, but the steel around them lives outdoors in Texas, and once a weld lets go, the opener starts working against a gate that no longer hangs true.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

Linear gate operators, particularly the LRA and SW series swing arms and the slide-gate chassis they mount to, rely on fabricated steel brackets, hinge plates, and motor mounts that are specific to each installation. The operator itself might be an LRA-S or an SWR, but the welding we do is almost always on the surrounding structure: hinge plates welded to column faces, gate frame rails that have cracked at a horizontal seam, or the mounting pedestal the Linear arm bolts to. When you call, have the model number from the operator’s side label if you can find it, but more importantly, take a photo of the failed joint with your phone. That tells us more than the model number in most cases. Linear’s OEM brackets are cast or stamped, and while they’re perfectly good parts, we often fabricate a heavier steel replacement where the original design was a weak point. On a gate that’s been wetted by Little Elm sprinklers for fifteen years, a thicker plate with better drainage and a proper paint pass tends to outlast the original part.

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate sags and scrapes the driveway on the latch side. This usually means a hinge weld has stretched or the post has moved, not that the gate frame itself bent. The weld may look intact but micro-fractures have let the gate settle.
  • You hear a sharp pop or crack when the opener starts its cycle. That’s a weld bead or a cracked bracket flexing under load. It only gets worse, and the Linear opener’s torque will eventually tear it the rest of the way.
  • The gate vibrates or chatters mid-travel. A cracked frame member changes the gate’s stiffness, so the opener’s smooth cycle turns into a series of small vibrations. It’s the metal telling you something.
  • Visible rust staining bleeds from a weld joint. Rust at a weld means the seam has been compromised and water is working through the joint. In Little Elm’s humid springs and freeze-thaw winters, that rust expands and splits the steel.
  • The gate leans toward the street or the post side when open. Hinge welds have loosened from the post. This also puts side-load on the Linear arm, which the operator was never designed to handle long-term.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Little Elm, a straight re-weld on a cracked joint runs $180 to $320, including grinding the old bead back, prepping the steel, welding, and painting to match. Fabricating a replacement bracket or reinforcement plate takes that up to $340 to $480 installed, because we’re cutting, bending, fitting, and often drilling for the Linear mount’s bolt pattern right there on site. The price is quoted and agreed before any work starts. What drives the range is how much of the old metal is worth saving. If we have to cut out a section of rusted gate frame and scab in new steel, that’s more time and material. Every weld carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the fix doesn’t hold, we come back and make it right, no charge and no argument. Victor Salinas has been working metal around Little Elm long enough to know that a weld either holds or it doesn’t, and we’d rather stand behind it than redo it.

DIY or Call Us?

A homeowner with a wire brush and a can of cold galvanizing spray can slow down surface rust. That’s worth doing, and it costs you twenty minutes. What is not worth doing is attempting your own structural weld or bolting a hardware-store plate over a failed joint. A bad weld on a gate hinge or a Linear mount point can fail suddenly, and a gate leaf that tears loose is a serious hazard to anyone standing near it. We’ve also seen DIY repairs where the weld looked sturdy but the heat warped the gate frame enough that the Linear opener started binding. What we do instead: grind the joint clean, check alignment, weld in short stitches to control heat, and confirm the gate cycles by hand before the operator takes over.
